Why Compress PDFs?

Large PDFs are difficult to share via email, messaging apps, or cloud storage with file size limits. Compressing reduces file size while keeping the document readable and professional.

Our compressor re-renders each page and re-encodes embedded images at your chosen quality level. Text and layout remain intact — only image data is optimized for smaller output.

Everything runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No server uploads, no registration, no waiting. Your documents stay private, and compression completes in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. All compression happens entirely in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded, inspected, or stored by any server — they stay on your device from start to finish.

How much will my file be compressed?

It depends on the content. PDFs with many images see significant reductions (50–80%). Text-heavy documents may see smaller savings. Choose 'Maximum compression' for the smallest possible size.

Does compression reduce quality?

The tool re-renders pages and compresses embedded images. At 'High quality' the difference is nearly invisible. At 'Maximum compression' you may notice slight blurriness in images, but text remains sharp.

Can I compress password-protected PDFs?

We attempt to open encrypted PDFs with the ignoreEncryption flag. Files with weak or owner-only passwords usually work. Strong user passwords may fail — remove the password first.

Is there a file size limit?

No server-imposed limit. Everything runs in your browser, so practical limits depend on your device's available memory. Files up to several hundred megabytes typically work fine.

Will my compressed PDF look different?

At the 'Balanced' and 'High quality' settings, the visual difference is minimal. The tool preserves page layout and dimensions — only embedded images are re-encoded at a lower quality to save space.
